1. About This Policy

This Cookie Policy covers the Rumors marketing website, rumors.app, and the cookies and similar technologies it uses. It does not cover the Rumors mobile app: how the app handles personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.

2. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. Browser storage such as localStorage works in a similar way. Some of these technologies only keep a site working; others are used for advertising and for tracking people across websites.

3. Technologies We Currently Use

The website uses Google Tag Manager (container GTM-NCJ26LCL) to load measurement and marketing tags. Two third parties can run tags through it:

• Google: analytics and advertising tags (analytics and advertising categories).
• Meta Platforms: the Meta Pixel (advertising category only).

Google Tag Manager, and every tag inside it, loads only after it is allowed to. Section 4 explains when that happens.

The website stores one item in your browser's localStorage, under the key rumors.consent. It records your choice in the cookie banner (the categories you allowed and the date), so the banner does not come back on every page. It contains no identifier and is never sent to us or to anyone else. If you clear your browser storage, the item is removed and the banner appears again.

The phrase pages also run our own first-party measurement, separate from Google Tag Manager. When you open a page, copy a phrase, follow a store link or scroll past the halfway point, the page sends a small event to our server at /api/e. The same request carries anonymous speed measurements, so we can see whether the site is slow on real networks and not only in a lab. It sets no cookie, writes nothing to your browser and involves no third party.

Public copy counts should count each person once per phrase per day. To do that, the server derives a one-way daily hash from your IP address and a secret, checks whether that hash has already counted the phrase today, and stores only the hash, never the address. The hash cannot be used the next day and is deleted within days. We keep and publish aggregate counts per phrase; that is what “Ranked by copies on rumors.app” refers to.

Concept pages under /quests/, /gifts/ and similar paths send the same kind of page-view event. Since 9 September 2026 they send it only if you have allowed the analytics or advertising category.

Our hosting and infrastructure providers may use strictly necessary or security-related technologies to deliver, operate or protect the website. If we add another strictly necessary cookie, we will describe it here, with its purpose and duration, before we use it.

4. Analytics, Advertising and Your Choice

We group non-essential technologies into two categories, and you choose each one separately:

• Analytics: measuring how the website is used, so we can improve it.
• Advertising: measuring and personalising advertising.

We use Google Consent Mode v2. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, both categories start as denied. Elsewhere they start as allowed, and you can change that at any time with the control described below. The denied default is set by country, based on the region your request comes from.

Whether the banner appears before anything loads is decided differently: by your browser’s time zone, because the page itself cannot see your country. With a European time zone, the banner appears and Google Tag Manager does not load until you choose. If your time zone does not look European (because you travel, use a VPN or set the zone by hand), the banner may not appear on its own and the tag manager may load, but the categories stay denied under the country rule. You can open the choice yourself at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.

Rejecting takes one click, in the same place and with the same prominence as accepting. If you choose Reject all, Google Tag Manager is not loaded.

To change or withdraw your choice at any time, use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent and takes effect when you save it.

This Cookie Policy covers the website only. The Rumors mobile app uses analytics and diagnostic tools for app purposes, as described in our Privacy Policy, and that is separate from how the website behaves.

5. Third-Party Services and Links

The website links to third-party services such as the Apple App Store and Google Play. If you follow one of these links, that service’s own privacy and cookie practices apply. A link on its own does not cause Rumors to place that service’s cookies.

6. Your Browser Controls

You can control or clear cookies at any time in your browser settings. The website’s core browsing experience does not currently rely on non-essential cookies.

7. Changes to This Policy

If the way this website uses cookies or similar technologies changes, for example if new analytics or advertising technologies are added, we will update this Cookie Policy and provide consent controls where the law requires them. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date on this page.
