Privacy Policy
Last updated:
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Rumors Dating Inc. (“Rumors,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses and shares personal information in connection with:
- the Rumors marketing website at rumors.app (the “Website”); and
- the Rumors mobile application for iOS and Android (the “App”),
together, the “Service.” Because the Website and the App work differently, this Policy describes their data practices separately where relevant.
2. Who We Are
Rumors Dating Inc. is a Delaware corporation with a business address at 1151 Walker Rd Ste 100, PMB 613, Dover, DE 19904, United States. Rumors is responsible for personal information processed through the Service, except where a third party — such as Apple or Google — independently collects and controls information under its own privacy practices, as described below.
3. Who May Use Rumors
Rumors is intended only for adults aged 18 and older. Registration requires you to provide your date of birth, and our registration process includes a technical check designed to prevent someone whose stated date of birth indicates they are under 18 from completing registration or accessing dating features. See Section 18 for more on children’s privacy.
4. Information We Collect
The Website
The Website is a static informational site. It does not require account creation and does not collect information through forms. The Website loads Google Tag Manager for analytics and marketing measurement, but only where that is allowed: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it is not loaded until you consent, and elsewhere you can withdraw consent at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer. See our Cookie Policy for the categories and the exact behaviour. Browsing the Website does not create a Rumors account or send information to the App’s systems.
The App
Depending on how you use the App, we may collect:
- Account information — the email address you register with, your date of birth, and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the limited profile information (such as your name and email address) that provider shares with us when you authorize the sign-in. We do not receive your Apple ID or Google account password.
- Verification information — your phone number and confirmation that you control the email address or phone number on your account (including, for phone verification, the fact that verification succeeded); and, if you use optional profile-verification features such as an automated photo check or a live selfie/liveness check, the photo, selfie or other information processed for that purpose. Rumors does not currently verify government-issued identification such as a passport or driver’s license.
- Profile and dating information — information you choose to add to your profile, such as photos, a display name, biography, interests, and dating or discovery preferences. Some information you voluntarily share on your profile (for example, information that may reveal characteristics such as religion, sexual orientation or health) can be considered sensitive personal information under some privacy laws. Providing this kind of information is optional, and Rumors does not require you to disclose any particular sensitive characteristic to use the Service.
- Discovery and matching activity — your interactions with discovery, recommendation and matching features, such as profiles you view or respond to.
- Messages — the content of messages you send to other users through the App, and communications you send to our support team.
- Location information — if you use a feature that requires it (for example, location-based discovery), we collect your device’s precise location at the time you use that feature, using the permission you grant through your device settings. We use this to support features such as showing the distance between users; other users see only an approximate distance in kilometers and your city, not your exact coordinates. We do not maintain a history of your past locations, and current App functionality does not access your location in the background. Location access is optional and can be changed at any time in your device settings.
- Reports and safety information — information submitted in a report about your account or another account, and information we generate while reviewing that report.
- Device, usage, network and diagnostic information — general information about your device and how you use the App; crash or stability information, collected through the tools described in Section 9; and network-related information such as your IP address, which Rumors and its infrastructure and security service providers may process for service delivery, security, rate-limiting, fraud and abuse prevention, and diagnostic purposes.
- Push-notification information — a device identifier used to deliver push notifications, if you enable them.
- Purchase information — where paid subscriptions or digital features are available, limited transaction information provided to us by the applicable app store, described in Section 11.
5. How We Collect Information
- Directly from you — when you register, complete your profile, use App features, contact support, or submit a report.
- Automatically through your use of the App — device, usage and diagnostic information, as described in Section 9.
- From Apple or Google — limited account information when you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, and limited purchase information where paid features are available.
- From other users — information included in a report submitted about your account or conduct.
We do not purchase personal information from data brokers or third-party marketing databases.
6. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage your account, and confirm you meet our age-eligibility requirement;
- operate dating and social-discovery features, including profile display, discovery and recommendations;
- provide the AI-assisted features described in Section 7;
- enable communication between users through in-app messaging;
- verify your phone number where phone verification is used;
- investigate reports, enforce our Community Guidelines, and protect the safety of our users;
- detect, prevent and respond to fraud, abuse and security incidents;
- measure and improve the performance, reliability and features of the Service, and diagnose and fix technical problems;
- deliver push notifications you have enabled;
- respond to support requests; and
- comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
7. AI-Assisted Features
The App uses server-side AI and other technology service providers to support certain features, which may currently include discovery and matching assistance, profile and recommendation assistance, and conversation assistance.
When an AI-assisted feature is used, relevant information — which may include your profile information, stated preferences and interests, photos, location-related information, and other content you provide for that feature — may be processed by our AI and technology service providers to generate the feature’s output, such as a recommendation or a suggested response.
We do not send the content of your private conversations to an AI provider unless you choose to use a specific feature that requires it, such as a feature that offers a suggested reply. We do not routinely route private messages through an AI provider.
When information is shared with an AI or technology service provider for these features, we do not intentionally include your Rumors account identifier, email address or phone number. Other information processed for these features — such as your profile, photos, preferences or the content you submit for a feature — remains personal information; it is not anonymous.
Rumors does not permit AI and technology service providers that process data on our behalf to use personal information that Rumors provides to them in connection with these features to train their general-purpose AI models. We implement this requirement through applicable provider settings and/or contractual terms.
AI-assisted features are designed to support discovery, recommendations and your overall experience. They do not make legally or similarly significant decisions about you, and they do not guarantee compatibility, a successful relationship, or the accuracy of any recommendation or output. AI-assisted features also do not verify or guarantee the identity or authenticity of any user.
8. Messages, Reports and Safety Review
Messages you send through the App are intended for the recipient you choose. In the normal course of operating the Service, Rumors personnel and our automated systems do not routinely review the content of private messages.
If you or another user reports a message, conversation or account, the reported content may be reviewed by our automated moderation systems or by authorized Rumors personnel to investigate the report, enforce our Community Guidelines, and protect user safety.
9. Analytics, Diagnostics and Notifications
The App uses Google/Firebase services for the following purposes:
- Analytics — to understand how the App is used and to improve its features, using information such as app-interaction and event information.
- Crash and stability diagnostics — to identify and fix technical problems, using crash and diagnostic information about the App and your device.
- Push notifications — to deliver notifications you have enabled, using a device identifier associated with your installation of the App.
These tools are used to operate and improve the App and to deliver notifications you have chosen to receive. They are not used to serve third-party advertising, and Rumors does not use any third-party advertising network on the Website beyond the advertising category described in the Cookie Policy. Whether that category starts allowed or denied depends on where you are: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it starts denied and nothing loads until you choose, and elsewhere it starts allowed and you can turn it off at any time. You can control notification permissions at any time through your device settings.
10. How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information. Where you allow the advertising category, the Meta Pixel and Google advertising tags on the Website receive event and device data that those providers may use for advertising measurement and personalisation; under some laws this counts as “sharing”. You can withdraw that permission at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer. We may also share personal information with:
- Other users — information you choose to make part of your profile may be visible to other Rumors users as part of the Service, and messages or other content you choose to send are shared with the recipients you select;
- Service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as the providers described in Section 19, under obligations to protect the information and use it only to provide services to us;
- Apple and Google, in connection with sign-in and, where paid features are available, purchase processing;
- Law enforcement or other parties, where required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Rumors, our users, or the public; and
- A successor entity, in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this Policy or a policy that provides comparable protection.
11. Payments and App Stores
Rumors does not currently process payments directly and does not store full payment card information. Where paid subscriptions or digital features become available, purchases will be billed and processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, and Rumors may receive limited transaction information (such as confirmation of a purchase and its status) needed to provide the purchased functionality. Additional detail about billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds will be available in our Subscription & Refund Policy as paid features become available.
12. Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as necessary to operate the Service, respond to support and safety requests, and meet legal obligations.
You can delete your account directly in the App through Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion of your Rumors account is immediate: the account is deleted, not merely deactivated. Rumors deletes the personal information associated with the account that it controls and instructs service providers processing that information on our behalf to delete it in accordance with our arrangements with them, subject only to the limited retention described below. If you no longer have the App installed, you can request deletion through rumors.app.
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a subscription managed through the Apple App Store or Google Play; subscriptions must be managed or canceled directly through the applicable app store.
Account deletion applies to information Rumors controls. It does not extend to records that Apple, Google or another independent service provider maintains under their own legal obligations and policies, such as app-store transaction records.
A narrow category of information may be retained for a limited period after deletion where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements. Where this applies, retention is limited to what is necessary for that purpose.
13. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise these rights, or ask a question about this Policy, by contacting support@rumors.app.
14. US State Privacy Information
Residents of certain US states may have additional rights over their personal information, which may include the right to know what personal information is collected, to request access to or deletion of that information, to correct inaccurate information, and to receive certain information in a portable format, subject to applicable exceptions.
Rumors does not sell personal information. Rumors does engage in what some state laws call “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising when — and only when — you allow the advertising cookie category: the Meta Pixel and Google advertising tags then receive Website event data. You can opt out at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page, which is also our “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control. You can exercise applicable state privacy rights by contacting support@rumors.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
15. EEA / UK Information
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal information on the following legal bases, as applicable: performance of a contract with you (for example, to provide the Service you sign up for); our legitimate interests (for example, to keep the Service secure and to improve it), balanced against your rights; your consent, where required by law (for example, for certain optional features); and compliance with a legal obligation.
Where you choose to provide information that may constitute special-category personal data, we process that information only as permitted by applicable law. Where explicit consent is required, we will ask you to provide that consent through an affirmative consent mechanism, and you may withdraw that consent as permitted by law.
16. International Transfers
Rumors Dating Inc. is a United States company, and personal information is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where required by law, we use measures designed to provide an appropriate level of protection for personal information transferred internationally.
17. Security
We use administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information.
18. Children’s Privacy / 18+
Rumors is intended only for adults aged 18 and older. Users under 18 are not permitted to use the Service, and our registration process includes a technical age check based on the date of birth you provide. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will take steps to delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact support@rumors.app. See our Child Safety page for how we respond to suspected accounts belonging to minors. Other laws beyond the US children’s privacy framework may also apply depending on your location.
19. Third-Party Services
We work with service providers that help us operate the Service, which currently include:
- Apple and Google, for App distribution, sign-in, and, where applicable, purchase processing;
- Google/Firebase services, for analytics, crash diagnostics and push notifications, as described in Section 9;
- AI and technology service providers, for the AI-assisted features described in Section 7;
- Communications and verification service providers, such as Twilio, to deliver and verify phone-verification codes; and
- Infrastructure, hosting, content-delivery and security providers, to operate and protect the Service.
Through Google Tag Manager the Website loads measurement and marketing tags: Google analytics and advertising tags, and the Meta Pixel. They run only in line with your cookie choice — see the Cookie Policy for the two categories and how to change them. Where the advertising category is not granted, these tags do not set advertising cookies and do not receive advertising identifiers.
20. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date on this page. If a change materially affects how we use personal information or your privacy rights, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by applicable law.
21. Contact Us
Questions about this Privacy Policy, or requests to exercise your privacy rights, can be sent to support@rumors.app or legal@rumors.app.
